Ayurvedic medicine is an ancient medical tradition that dates back 5,000 thousand years originating from South Asian countries such as Nepal, India and it is deeply rooted in a philosophy of balancing mind, body, and spirit utilizing food & herbs, lifestyle, meditation, breathing exercises and yoga & asanas. Ayur means life and Veda means knowledge in Sanskrit and its’ literal translation is knowledge of longevity or life.
Ayurveda is based on the balance of three doshas namely pitta, Vata and Kapha are formed by the combination of different elements found in nature like fire, water, ether, and earth-like traditional Chinese Medicine. Diagnosis of imbalance of these doshas can be made based on symptoms presentations, pulse diagnosis, individual’s predisposition, family history and so on. The treatment plan is individualized based on the pacification of doshas and working to bring them to balance. The goal of balancing doshas goes beyond bringing them into evenness but striving to experience Ojas which in Sanskrit is the ultimate experience of bliss that one can experience in a human body.
