Craniosacral Therapy

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy is a very gentle hands-on therapy that originated from Osteopathic Medicine. There are multiple schools of thought in its philosophy and its mechanism. One school of thought is that it works to balance different fascias in the body, another to balance different fluids in the body including synovial fluid in the brain. Likewise, some believe that it utilizes connective tissues, or it has to do with balancing different motions of the bones in relationship with each other. At its core, it has to do with balancing these different visceral components in the body and it is a gentle and relaxing mind-body technique that aims to release restrictions from the body and provide deep relaxation to the nervous system. Some of the conditions that it can help with are:

  • Chronic pain including fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome
  • Post-concussion syndrome
  • Neuralgia
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Headaches
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Past trauma
  • Fatigue

CST has very little contraindication, but it is always good to get a consultation with a provider if this therapy is right for you.
